Summary
CD64 is less specific than CD14 in the identification of monocyte lineage, but is more sensitive and can be useful in the characterisation of MPAL

Diagnostic Use
  • CD64 is less specific than CD14, but is reliably expressed in AML with monocytic differentiation either monoblastic or monocytic aml
  • CD64 is not expressed by normal neutrophIls, but is acquired following their activation and is consistently expressed by promyelocytic AML albeit at lower intensity than in monocytic AML
  • The expression of CD64 by monocytic-lineage cells means that it has particular use as an additional marker of myeloid lineage in cases of suspected mpal.
