Summary
Expressed on acute myeloid leukaemias with more mature features, particularly those with granulocytic maturation, CD11b is also expressed on monocytes (although less so than CD11c). Expression of CD11b may be used to support the identification of mixed phenotype acute leukaemia MPAL.

Background
This is a leukocyte integrin receptor expressed by myeloid cells; in contrast to the closely related CD11c, CD11b is predominantly a marker of neutrophil maturation acquired after the more primitive blast cell stage then showing stronger expression as precursor cells mature.

Diagnostic Use
  • Expression of CD11b may be used to support the identification of mixed phenotype acute leukaemia MPAL.
