Polyclonal B lymphocytosis

  • Reactions associated with B-lymphoid expansion – the uncommon polyclonal B-lymphocytosis, the characteristic cell has a strongly bi-lobed nucleus although a range of forms should be present.
  • Generally arising in smokers with diagnosis confirmed by flow cytometry of the abnormal lymphocyte population

Polyclonal B lymphocytosis
A varied appearance easily confused with viral disorder or neoplasia. Look for the characteristic bilobed or bi-nuclear forms - flow cytometry can confirm the polyclonal B cell nature.
