STAG2

From www.haematologyetc.co.uk

Gene affected:
STAG2 - Cohesin subunit SA-2
Clinical significance
The prognostic implications of STAG2 is an evolving field and currently there are no prognostic implications.

Function of gene

STAG2 forms part of the spliceosome complex. Spliceosome mutations are thought to promote malignancy through missplicing of genes involved in epigenetic regulation, transcription, and genome integrity

Occurrence:

MDS (~10%)
Possibly associated with a reduced overall survival although evidence is not strong
AML (~3%)
No prognostic implications currently.

Associated genetic features: Mutually exclusive with other cohesion complex molecules (STAG1, SMC1A, SMC3/RAD21). Associated with ASXL1/RUNX1/NPM1.
